Has anyone used a bamboo cutting board? How does it compare to wood cutting board in term of hardness, easiness to maintain, and overall utility? Which one do you prefer?
Thanks.
Bamboo cutting board?
i havent used one but i would think it would be about the same as the hard plastic cutting boards as bamboo is very hard ...i only have used wisconsin maple.and i wouldnt change this is my 4 th one ........of nothing lasts forever and you have to replace it....
Reply:i would just worry about dulling my knife as the plastic one dull them faster then wood but that is serious ....i am sure it cleans up good.....i would like to know some day how it works for you.... Report It
Reply:I bought a bamboo cutting board in publix about 2 days ago. Ive only used it twice so umm i cant really answer your question. But ummm so for yeah it seems pretty good to me
Reply:I somewhat agree with retired chef but buy only the treated wood cutting boards. Have never used Bamboo and would hesitate to try it. I have one small plastic cutting board but don't like it as when it gets damp items slide too easy on it.
Reply:"Hear us now: kitchen gadgets are so going to be in this spring. Just you wait. We especially like the exotic stuff, like these $25 bamboo cutting boards (now why didn't we think of that?). The pressed bamboo shoots are supposedly perfectly smooth and (surprise!) extremely resilient. Looks like we finally have something to replace our balsa wood cutting boards with, huzzah!"
This was from a site on-line. As for what I prefer - I was told by a kitchen expert years ago to use the hard plastic boards because they could be put into the dish washer to be cleaned. For a while I worked in a cafe and they ONLY used hard plastic boards for that reason - a yellow one was used for poultry only. Although I have wooden ones as well, at home, I only use those to cut breads, etc. I also use a specific plastic one for fruits and veggies only and one for meats only.
