is there any type of bamboo that I can plant outside in zone 5?
Bamboo plants for my area?
Yes but make sure you plant clumping bamboo or it will completely take over your yard and the neighbors. If you plant running bamboo (invasive) you need to use a rhizome barrier.

Reply:Yes, Phyllostachys nuda is a very hardy form of Bamboo. Bamboo can be very invasive.
Try a clumping bamboo like Umbrella Bamboo (Fargesia murielae), which is cold hardy and non-invasive.
Reply:Plant them in huge pot plant buckets as they spread like wild fire. What is zone 5 . I live in Australia.
