Growing bamboo in Quebec, Canada. (Zone 4)?

Hi. I ordered Phyllostachys nuda to plant in my land in the Laurentians. It's cold up there (Canadian Zone 4) but this bamboo is good for -32C. Has anyone ever planted bamboo this hi in Quebec or in Ontario?

that bamboo will need some protection in

your winter for long temp survival. some bubble wrap tightly added on the top and bottom as well as a plastic bag to keep moisture out should work. perennial in your zone, but wilthout protection might not come up in a very harsh winter. most have some sucess even if it doesnt look great in the spring it is fast growing.

bamboo in zone 5 is also difficlut unless one of the very cold hardy ones and in zone 6 there are more, but still slightly limited to about 25 species or so, and in zone 7 much more, and no real problems with bamboo in zone 8 and higher
Reply:Remember, this is Canadian zone 4... In zone 4 we can grow many things like pears and cherries. Montreal is zone 5 and they grow this same bamboo at the Jardin Botanique and It survives very well. I will mulch it for sure and probably also isolate it with bubble rap like user "weather" said. Report It

Reply:We have to try to really know. Worst case scenario, it dies to the ground but I doubt it will completely die if its mulched. I will get a regrowth every summer and it will just be smaller and expand slower in surface. I will keep you posted! Report It

Reply:Nope, never have, sorry. But, just one question its been known to go lower than that in the Laurentians, are you going to mulch or cover it over the winter? With the wind chill and the amounts of snow you get up there.... I guess I might give it a try just for fun, to see if I could do it. Good luck and if it spreads maybe a panda or two? (:)
Reply:u musta be kidding me. i live in a zone 4. never ever have seen anyone growing a bamboo. it won't survive in winter. it might survive one winter or 2, but then it will die anyway
