Why does the bamboo in my fishtank keep turning black and dying?

I have a bamboo shrimp and i have some bamboo for him. The bamboo is sposed to be for underwater, but it keeps turning black and it looks like its dying. Am i suposed to be added nutrients or something? what can i do to get this to stop???

Bamboo is not an aquatic plant, so it should NOT be fully submerged. When kept from exposure to air, it will rot, which is what you're seeing. Simply allow it access to the surface. If it isn't tall enough, you can float it or put it in a breeder box or shallow vase until it has grown sufficiently.
Reply:It sounds like the chemical mix in your tank causes this - Bamboo plants need clear fresh water - If you have treated the water it will react with the plants (not designed for fish tanks) - There is a plant you can substitute , see your specialist fish shop , not a big pet retailer
Reply:go back to where ever you got it from and ask them what conditions (temperature, tank size, filter....) you'd need to keep it alive!


it could be something real simple!


i had bamboo in a small pot that you keep in 1inch of water that died! i got a new one then i killed that one as well!


it's hard to keep!
