How enviornmentaly friendly is bamboo??

I've heard great things about bamboo... It grows quickly, its durable, and renewable... But I have also heard bamboo is very invasive in some parts of the world. There are many species of bamboo, which is used for construction? And is that species invasive? I can't find any straightforward answers online. Any help?

How enviornmentaly friendly is bamboo??
Many people think bamboo is an invasive grass, but only a few out of many, many species of bamboo is actually invasive. A variety of bamboos are used for construction, house wares (like flooring,) and garden design. One on line nursery I like is http://www.bamboogarden.com

Bamboo is cut green, then allowed to dry. Next it is cut for it's intended use, and then sold. After looking at the on line nursery, search for each species you like for more information. Here are some links to bamboo nurseries. The first one specializes in non-invasive species. If you want bamboo for construction, check for the largest ones they sell. Then double check them to be sure.

Reply:Invasive? What do you mean?

Bamboo is the only forest left in China. They have cut down all the trees.

Bamboo grows very quickly, so it is the only forest left.

It is strong, but not like pine or oak or fir.

Again, what do you mean by "invasive" in this context?

One variety of bamboo is traditionally used used for scaffolding, I think that is what you mean.

They can all be invasive, you'll need a bit of sensible planning
Reply:There many, you'll not find any sole all knowing source on it on the internet . Many uses. The running varieties are considered invasive while there are clumping varieties easier to control.
Reply:well all I can say is, in our country the Philippines is one source of food and construction materials for houses and furniture made of bamboo and also kitchen utensils made of it and piano made of bamboo. just search the Internet for pictures of nipa house or the bamboo organ in the philippines, you will be maze that the construction materials use are entirely made of bamboo.and also in some neighbouring country like indonesia, malaysia and thailand. Thats all I can say.
Reply:I love to watch those DIY shows on TV and lately the Big Deal is bamboo flooring. There are (like anything else) several grades of bamboo flooring and several different ways that it is processed. I only know of one person who has installed it and - - - it is very expensive, and it does look beautiful.

That is all that I can share with you! Hope this helps.
